I remember it well even though I was an elementary school kid in Korea. Upon the news of Nixon's resignation, adults were reeling from shock. They were stunned that the president of the United States stepped down for corruption charges. This might have been the first time I had heard of a great country called America.

Koreans, living under a dictatorship, saw the democracy at work. They were consumed with respect for the United States. Democracy was a pipe dream to them.

That was 50 years ago. Just hours ago, the Korean president has been impeached. There is no Korean equivalent of the US Senate. Now it's up to the country's highest court to remove him from office. Meanwhile, he will be suspended of his powers and duties.

This is surreal to me. I'm sure Trump supporters would tell me to "go back." Guess what. I am back. MAGA has brought me back to the Korea of the 1970s.
