I’d have to disagree on several fronts. To start, I think Perry is quite athletic for his build. He’s not a wiry guard who plays above the rim, but his hops, speed, and lateral quickness are more than sufficient to be a strong defensive guard at the college level. In fact, I’d argue he’s currently the second-best defender on this team. He consistently uses his strength on both ends of the floor.
Offensively, he’s a solid shooter and, perhaps most importantly, he’s playing point guard the way Cronin wants it played. He’s significantly cut down on turnovers, doesn’t overdribble, attacks the basket when opportunities arise, and finishes through contact. There’s a lot to like about the way Trent is developing.
