you can only go so far. You can expect some improvement during the season but only if you keep the schemes simple. Predominantly relying on individual talent is a simple and fast solution and it can be exciting to watch as entertainment, but it really takes its toll on nuanced and complex team basketball. Cronin has a hard time getting each new team every year to play the kind of defense he demands of his teams. This past season he never really accomplished that. They got better toward the end of the season, but really not completely to his standards. To my sensibilities team basketball is much more interesting to watch than watching individuals perform their talents no matter how extraordinary they may be. To me that's like eating empty calories - fun perhaps, but of little sustenance IMO. Basketball, for me, is a team game and it takes time (years really) to get everyone on the same page in a consistent manner to play the game as a team. I think, in spite of the shear athletic magnificence of the individual players, NBA basketball holds very little interest for me.
