Yes, ej, I’ve read those reports. The problem is that they don’t really line up with the facts as we know them.

They ignore the legitimate reservations Mara reportedly had, which were covered by a credible mainstream source. They also don’t match some of the more exaggerated claims that circulated — for example, the idea that he insisted on staying in Spain, even though he later reported to Michigan after the break. More importantly, a lot of those narratives were undermined when Mara himself went on the record and disputed the claims and again explained why he left.

That’s where I struggle with the disconnect. Why does it make more sense to trust anonymous blog reporting over established reporting and the player’s own public comments? I could understand the argument more if Cronin had directly disputed Mara’s version of events, but he never did.

So at that point, we’re being asked to believe secondhand accounts over a major reporter and the actual player involved. That’s the part that doesn’t make much sense to me.

By the way, it's not a far stretch to believe he left because of playing time, because we were all witnesses to it.
