Recruiting isn't horse shoes, there are no points or prizes for almost getting a guy, and you certainly can't build a roster or any kind of momentum with all the guys you came up short in recruiting. Nobody is going to you are one of the 4 best teams/programs in the country because you almost got a recruit.
Conversely, going to the final four requires at least 4 actual tournament wins. Going to Final Four is universally recognized as an achievement, something that at most programs will garner a banner, and can be a huge momentum builder for a program, whereas losing a recruit to another program doesn't get you a damn thing except for maybe a second look when they enter the transfer portal.
