of August so students are on campus for late August, September games. Do you know how much higher Cal's average attendance is vs UCLA's? It's not, at least for the past 2 years.
In 2024, Cal had average attendance of 39.2K, UCLA 46.8K, per Wikipedia. Average attendance in 2023, Cal 38.7K, UCLA 47.9K. Stanford, with their on-campus stadium, 26K (yikes!) in 2024, 33.2K in 2023.
If we had an on-campus stadium, I'm sure we'd get more students attending. But how many more? We'd also lose some fans that are going to games today that wouldn't go to games at an on-campus stadium. Just imagine the traffic on Sunset going east off the 405? Or Wilshire. Some current fans would just stop going. So attendance wise, are we gaining anything with an on-campus stadium? Plus we'd lose the tailgating at the Rose Bowl which is one of the best qualities of UCLA football...we can't lose the tailgate!

We're closer to dropping down to D2 and playing in an expanded Drake than we are getting a larger on-campus stadium. It won't happen and it shouldn't happen. And remember, our RB lease runs until June 2044. How much would we have to pay to exit that lease?
