It always bothers me when teams line up in the shotgun with just one yard to go. I get the intent but the lineup creates a situation in which the back who receives the snap has to gain three yards just to get back to the line of scrimmage. If ANY defender gains a yard from the LOS, it's a loss. I always prefer to take the snap under center in those situations. You sacrifice some extra time during the play for the runner to read and adjust to the defense but it just feels like the advantages of starting right at the LOS outweighs that with the QB reading the D prior to the snap and taking advantage of an initial push
