"their UCLA friends"? You need to find a new ski resort...
In general, sc alums seem to feel more in the usc "family" than UCLA alums and our "family". For a # of reasons but one is this: ever been to a UCLA alumni event? One of the biggest complaints I've heard at some of these events is that "I graduated from UCLA but they turned down my kid". We don't give much importance (any?) to legacy admits but usc does. Maybe an usc alums kid has to wait until 2nd semester freshman year to get in, or sophmore year to get in, or spend freshman year in sc's freshman year in Paris program. But sc will look at different methods to get an alums kid admitted before their junior year. And that builds loyalty to sc among those alums and future alums.
