One other thing we lose with not having good non-conference opponents is those opportunities to both recruit those states, but also have recruits families get to see them without road trips to LA.
EG. one reason we played a lot of non-conference games in Texas (TX/TAMU/Hou/Rice...) was so we could recruit Texas better. We already have a strong footprint in the west, but that Texas pipeline was solid for UCLA.
