Sure there have been a few high profile missed calls, but as a whole, for the past several years, PI has been called so increasingly often that QBs now routinely huck deep balls with as much or more hope of getting a PI call than an actual completion. It has become like holding, in that refs seem to think that it's something they could call on every single passing play if they choose.

And as far as what DBs can do, they can use proper technique, not be too handsy, and most importantly, turn back and look for the ball on deep passes. Moreover, it's worth considering that PI is in many respects the American Football equivalent to World Football's "professional foul" in that it is often intentionally done when a player has been beaten in hopes of avoiding something worse (breakaway goal / Long completion, TD)
