I agree with your analysis.
This was the wrong year to try and make the gerrymander districts in TX have smaller advantages.
From memory, last I saw Hispanics had just over 30% support for Trump where the districts were gerrymandered expecting around 50% Hispanic support.
Where they are going to get surprised is that young voters support Trump at under 30% not at 55%.
That being said, Hispanics and young people tend not to vote in midterm elections.
What is going to kill him is that college educated who vote in midterms only support Trump at about 25%.
Even with non-college educated where Trump had 55% of the vote, he's down to only 40% support.
