The theory is Vance would resign, Trump, as VP would become President again, and Vance would be nominated and confirmed as VP again. This all hinges on the wording of the 22nd amendment which states "can't be elected President" for a third term. It's MAGA's way around the 22nd amendment, but it's pretty out there.
