Ever since I've mass consumed Adam Curtis documentaries I cannot unsee this: The Democratic Party (and left of cwenter, social democratic parties in the industrialized west) are out of ideas. They are incapable of having any new ideas or anything new to offer ever since they sold their souls to neoliberalism in the '90s.
- Obama ran as hope and change, but there wasn't any big change other than the healthcare plan, which was a version of what Mitt Romney did in MA.
- H. Clinton ran as "I'm a woman, but other than that, same old neoliberal policies with aggressive foreign policy track record" idea, which was absolutely nothing new.
- Biden ran as "let's get things back to the way they were" candidate, which blew up on his and Harris' collective faces in '24.
Mainstream Democrats have absolutely no new ideas. The only new thing they can offer to differentiate themselves from '90s Republican party is being trans friendly and be the anti-Trump on immigration.
So I don't know that they care more about LGBTQ people, as oppsoed to that being about the only area whwre they feel like they have something to say. (I'm sure it comes across as "not caring about regular folks any more" to most people though).
We're going to have more of that moderate vs committed left discussion for a while, I'm sure.
