in other industrialized nations, noting that they have issues too and, dismissing the whole premise for that reason (I'm not saying you're doing that) categorically presupposes that (a) those issues are not preferable to the ones we are having, and (b) that we cannot understand where those issues come from and design a better version that mitigates (or eliminates) them. (The latter is where you see the mighty American can-do attitude having completely fallen apart at this point, btw.)
Like I said, I'm not saying that's your claim, but this is a tactic often used by people who are emotionally and intellectually invested in the current system and feel queasy about introducing any big changes (because the existing system works fine for them right now).
