Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth continued his culture war-laden tenure on Saturday as he maligned Ivy League-educated military leadership in a speech at Texas A&M University. (Maybe he should have brought some testosterone for the football team.)
“For too long, the Defense Department — now the War Department — the leadership looked toward the Ivy League for answers,” Hegseth said, eliciting cheers from the audience.
“Sending our best and brightest uniformed officers to anti-American campuses that actively disdain the uniform, rewrite our history and undermine our national resolve. Sending our uniformed class to campuses that hate our country. Those days are finished,” he continued.
While Hegseth has made a habit of bringing culture war issues into the military, his excoriation of Ivy League institutions is undercut by the fact that he holds degrees from two of them.
Hegseth holds a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University and a master’s degree from Harvard.
