Two primary reasons why they closed in California, one because they were polluting the environment and the companies running them refused to fix it, see the ones near Suisun for example.
Two, Californians have bought so many electric cars the demand has dropped from .5 to 2% per year since 2005.
When idiot republicans blame cutting refineries for the cost of diesel skyrocketing they are just lying, the real reason is Trumps war. We had a surge in gas price prior to the war that was related to 2 refineries closing but that didn't actually impact the cost of diesel
