I agree. Pitching wasn't the problem—it was a three-run game, and the hitting was the issue.
The one decision I really didn't like was bunting in the third inning of a one-run game, especially with a team built around hitting home runs. I'm also not a fan of playing for the tie, particularly when the other team is using a bullpen game.
I did like that he kept Sasaki in for two innings to give him some confidence in a game we were likely going to lose. I also liked that he gave the rookie a playoff at-bat.
That said, I do think not pitching Yamamoto in Game 2 is dumb. You want him lined up to pitch Game 5, and giving him the extra rest makes sense.
