Kustrica and Perry with Philon and Petty. The contrast is stunning. Kustrica and Perry, for the most part, can't keep in front of their men while Petty and Philon, for the most part, can. Pick up games, in many ways, are not a good barometer to gauge how players will do in structured games, but they will show a player's athleticism or lack there of. Both Perry and Kustrica have skills and many pluses but their lack of defensive lateral foot quickness is evident even in these pick up games. Older more experienced players will often be stronger and smarter, but foot quickness is foot quickness regardless of age or experience. It can, in a limited way, be improved upon over time with work, but usually not to any great degree. Lack of foot quickness can sometimes be mitigated by team defensive schemes, but again not entirely. Slow footed players are always vulnerable, to some degree, in any defensive scheme. Cronin has a lot to work with in regards to this current team, but in some areas he has his work cut out for him.
