That’s a complete misread of the situation. The fact that the QB value is what it is providesGMs and capogists the opportunity to create alpha. It’s precisely why thr Tua deal is so poor. Thr fish are paying 2 WR > 30mm/. A GM can’t allocate so much of the cap to WR and QB. I’m sure the fish structured the new contracts (Waddle and Tua) to hit later in the contracts but the piper always comes due and that means Hill won’t be able to resign or restructure. It also means austerity in other places.

It’s why the Bengals are letting their triplets go away and it will ultimately be Burrow and Chase. You just can’t manage an entire team when you allocate too much $$ on certain pairings. If you’re paying your QB so much, if you want to be a legit contender, you have to rely on him to make the WRs better, a la Mahomes and Brady.

If the Niners pay Purdy what you think they are gonna pay him, they will be a dead franchise. First, his talent doesn’t justify anything close to that and second, fhey would have to get rid of a lot of extremely productive components. Trent Williams, Deebo, aiyuk (if he’s not already gone) Warner, Bosa, Cmac, etc. The numbers just don’t work out and he’s not good enough to elevate on his own. He’s a lot like Tua minus the injury concern. He’s elevated because of his personnel and coach and the alpha is created by NOT signing these guys to top of the market contracts and/or finding the next guy.

I find the Dak situation very interesting for this very reason.
