Start by deleting reference to Ucla when talking about the Bruins. Next, think about the $200 million debt that Morgan Center has incurred and how welcome an infusion of cash would be for the UC system and state of CA. Now think of a licensee who pays the school at hefty amount of money upfront and a guaranteed, preferred return each year rather than the operating losses they currently suffer. The licensee earns a normal rate of return on its invested capital but has contractual incentives to improve the financial performance of the team to earn a premium return. The school fills in its cavernous debt, is unburdened of the expense of running football and is paid a handsome cash flow each year for the use of its brand that it can use to pay for all of its money losing Olympic and country club sports.
You would immediately see progress in football, now known as the Bruins, not the Ucla Bruins, and the school continues to support its slate of money losing programs that no one watches or cares about. Win win.
This is the way forward, this is "getting back to the program". Dump Ucla and let the Bruins thrive.
