I would take a coach (or any person in position of decision making) who has a better grasp of the new world we're living but has quite a room to improve on wrt the fundamentals of their job over someone who has proven to be really great at their job in the old world but having difficulty adjusting to the changes that are happening in real life.
The person who was very successful in the old world who can't figure out what the new world looks like has less of a chance to grasp the new world, I think than a person who needs to master the fundamentals that have not changed.
Roundabout way of saying that in the absence of finding the perfect unicorn, I'd be more patient with Foster growing into his role (as long as he shows growth) than someone like Kelly, who despite his supposed genius reputation, showed little interest in learning how to navigate a changing landscape.
But if a unicorn comes along that gives you both, who am I to say no to that? UCLA football, on the other hand, does not get unicorns.
