When UCLA was being dropped by Under Armour, I didn't remember Newsome and the BOR stepping up to help out in that fight to recover any part of that contract and salvage the next apparel deal. When the P12 was falling dramatically behind in TV revenue deals, I didn't remember Newsome and the BOR pushing to fix that. When UCLA was suffering from severe deficits, I didn't ever hear Newsome talk about paying athletes could have dramatic financial effects to programs like UCLA.
I could argue UCLA didn't handle the situation with the P12 well, but hard for me to understand what UCLA owes Cal. Did UCLA owe UC San Diego, Santa Barbara, etc explanations also? Maybe I'm wrong on this, but right or wrong, I'm trying to stay in the same league and level as $c and Oregon. UCLA had to save itself. I'm not concerned about Cal at this point and I honestly don't disagree with Ucla's way of handling it with the BOR. The stakes were too high to jeopardize IMO.
