Tho some of that was off budget and influenced by demographics.

Obama inherited massive deficits from Bush and reduced them by more than half, while Trump ran the two largest deficits in history, more than 6 trillion his last 2 FY.

The scale of the deficit is directly correlated to tax cuts for wealthy and corporations. Reagan’s tax bill increased the deficit 5-fold and Bush turned a nominal surplus into a massive deficit. Obama and Clinton did not pass the tax policies that lead to the mountains of debt we now have.
