But there is also the NAFTA deal, which certainly undermined whatever production base that was left in the country. There were specific laws repealed that ended up opening the doors for the 2008 collapse. After the 2008 collapse, there could have been some restructuring, some accountability on the crisis, none of that happened.

Those diecisions helped shrink the middle class and accelerated the broader downward mobility of the masses, and that has a consequence on the overall picture, no?

I'm not saying they carry equal blame, but that they have been a part of that overall trend.
