I noted before that this whole recruiting cycle seems to me like Cronin has realized he needs time to develop players to play his system - try to land a top dog if he can but the bulk of his program has to develop guys who can defend and rebound and play the game into a roster he can afford and one with which he can win games. This guy seems to me like another piece of that. He's still thinking he can retain them in today's everything's a market world of basketball but I think it's his best chance to build something he can sustain at UCLA.
But I fully agree with your assessment of where he stands right now - next year
