I called for Meyer on this very board in 2002

And some posters said Bowling Green was no place for UCLA to look for a head coach. I wonder if they’ve learned that this type of place is exactly where you look for a hungry young coach.

OTOH, at one point I also thought Steve Kragthorpe at Tulsa was a rising star and he turned out to be nothing.

I also thought we should have looked hard at Pat Hill back in his heyday. Like Riley, he was not a great coach but he was very competent. He also would have shored up our OL and made us a tougher team because that was his thing. But people said he was too gruff or okie. Not handsome enough I guess.

I think at one point a decent coach like Riley or Hill would have put us on a different path than the one we are on now. Unfortunately, now a good coach may not be enough. We may need a great one to get things moving again.
