I was surprised to realize that I'd never been to Oakland before

I'd been to Berkeley before, for a conference or two, is been to the Oakland airport a few times, and did some work at Emeryville once, but never went to or stayed at Oakland itself. At least the downtown area was very pleasant.

That said, all those writer's workshop corners and youth outreach for the arts, not to mention killer tacos and some awesome yemeni coffee did make me fear for my life. Constantly.

If only I'd seen an in'n out and taken refuge in its safety!
