citizen, and that's the focus. I see arguments against citizenship proof requirements as a losing position at the end of the day. It's hard to argue for that without looking like we've got something to hide.
On the flip side, MAGA and the right is also against the state providing proof of citizenship to *every* citizen. So shifting the argument in that direction would put them on the wrong foot in the same way we are on the wrong foot right now.
If *every* citizen has proof of citizenship they can no longer push people off the polls because they don't like their name. As I said, I see this as a protective move. Taking the citizenship cover away from them would force them to say openly that the people they really want to purge from the voter databases is black and minority people. Let them say that openly.
This is just how I see it -- but the crucial component in what I'm arguing for is that this needs to guarantee *every* citizen a proof of citizenship, whether they sent an application or not. Take that piece out and yeah, the plan can only go bad.
