He was the opposite of run off. What forced his hand was his own realization that it was all about to collapse beneath his feet. He had established neither a strong culture, talent base, nor the confidence/relationships with donors to jump start NIL.

He is a "clever football man", sure. But he blew it in every other regard. He's where he belongs: drawing X's and O's in a dark room.
