I saw a picture back from the 70's and I was really young in those days. Earliest memories were John McKay having the better teams. First time I remember watching that game intensely was 1980. My first time attending was 81. First win while attending was 82. The rivalry felt pretty intense in the 80's and 90's and feels like it's tapered off except for a few games here and there. 2006 was a boiling over point for me that made the game unique.
Was wondering when did it really start to be a legit rivalry? Was it pretty intense prior to Beban-Simpson? Or did that take it to the next level.
