Colleges have to balance what they do with safety

I don't think people realize how often colleges get threats of mass gun violence. My community colleges depending on what is going on have them monthly to multiple times a week.

For security reasons, you don't ever let anyone know the details. I've had to call in a shooter on campus warning and they didn't even tell me the follow-up despite being the original caller and the person in charge being a personal friend.

Graduation is a time of celebration, do you want to put thousands of people's lives in jeopardy?

If this was about racism, they simply would have not picked a Muslim valedictorian.

I don't like free speech being silenced but I understand the decision. I say this as a guy who talked to a sheriff who was at the East LA College mass shooting and is preparing our protocol and knowing the person on our campus who was ultimately in charge of shutting it down or not.
