You may not like it, but Cronin's retention record is pretty good and without looking into it too closely I would guess is one of the better ones in the nation. Mara's departure, the only one where Cronin wanted him to stay, was not all on Cronin. There were other actors involved in the whole scenario - least of which was Mara. Cronin did indeed mismanage Mara IMO but all the things Mara mentioned as to why he left were all right there in front of him at UCLA. IMO Cronin was making Mara a more complete basketball player and Mara was too immature ans inpatient to see it. Then there's the Michigan coach who I still believe has a major role in all of this. None of this reflects on Cronin's overall retention record - it's still excellent.
