The Indiana Commission for Higher Education, in all its vaunted edumacated wisdom, has decided to just … end … nearly 400 degree programs. They’re doing this ahead of a new law mandating a minimum number of students per program. So, of course, they’re targeting anything smacking of “wokeness” — women’s programs, African American studies, etc. But the list of programs they’re getting rid of or consolidating is just breathtaking:
- music, visual arts and dance programs
- languages, including French and Spanish
- biology, chemistry, biochem, physics, nursing and neuroscience
- B.S.Ed. programs in physics, chemistry, math and general science (because who needs teachers in those programs anyway)
- social studies, religious studies and philosophy
- it looks like nearly all the masters degrees for teachers (for that matter, who needs educated teachers at all)
- technology programs like biotechnology, computer and chemical engineering
Way to go, Indiana legislature. I’m sure nobody in your state needs good teachers, nurses, therapists, doctors, scientists, businesspeople, etc.
Look for this crap to be coming soon to other red states.
