Fine with me, as well as those who disagree with me. No one is going to get every interpretation correct.
There are some posters here who band together and make it a point to drop the names of their bandmates in their posts. Don't know why they seemingly think dropping the names of those who band together with them strengthens their arguments.
I don't get them all right, but I put a lot of thought into my interpretations and don't shoot from the hip.
For all the above, I didn't join the thread a few below this one, even tho I agreed with the comments in that thread on CMC's "O" lacking,
CMC is now in his 23rd season as head coach. I think he is an above avg coach, with particular bona fides on the D end as per that lengthy 23 yr sample size. As to his "O" coaching, my conviction is strong that it has put a ceiling on his overall coaching rep, which as I said is above-avg but notably offsetting on the "O" side.
His tours at Murray State and even far moreso viz his much longer reign at Cincy, consisted of a leopard that doesn't change his spots. We had a BZ poster who sadly passed away ~ CincyFan ~ who had a front row seat to CMC and how the Ohio locals reacted to him. It was as homogeneous as homogeneous can be. His teams invariably consisted of D bruisers and they made a lot of March Madnesses. But, they never advanced much. They made only 1 S16 in those 16 seasons, with the common shortfall being his homogeneity which made his teams' "O" easier to defend ~ ALONG WITH LITTLE IN THE WAY OF ANY CREATIVITY ON THE O END!
Things improved when he got to UCLA and was able to recruit better players as aided by the far more elevated rep of Westwood.
Agree with me or don't, but as I said above, I put a lot of thought into my opinions. For someone who's been a head coach for almost a quarter of a century, CMC is a well known persona. And, opinions of him by other well-known hoops coaches and insiders are readily quotable (setting aside pencil pushers like Ken Pom).
Once again, my conviction is strong that those insiders who have offered their opinion of CMC have overwhelmingly opined that he is a solid D coach. 23 yrs of so observing make it so. As to Mick's "O" side, you might not hear a pin drop but you won't find his name remotely near the top members of the coaching fraternity that have earned the OVERALL respect of their peers. And, you can't spell OVERALL without an *O*.
A weave on the perimeter, predicated on gaining an edge (a seam) on ISO plays, is the antithesis of creative. CMC is not known as a welcoming safe harbor to fluid PGs for a reason. CMC is not known as a prime port in the storm for creative & physical bigs in the low blocks.
These things, manifesting over almost a quarter of a century, are not coincidental. It's: 'my way or the highway', is not the anthem of a top-tier O coach. Feel free to disagree, but you bet I rely on the eye test. And, I have two of them and............................did I mention, that I just don't shoot from the hip?
