and someone who has been in the game for a long time. He tends to look at the various qualities of a player and looks for the potential. That perspective appears more rosy than let's say the fans' perspective which is all about results mostly. Rankings, ratings, hype, and that sort of thing mostly influences that perspective. Johnson, in this case, is looking at Cronin's team building. Looking at what this team can be. We all, probably Johnson included, see that Cronin needs to bring in a couple of huge impactful guys, but right now things are looking positive. I share that perspective while also acknowledging that if Cronin fails to bring in those impactful players things can look differently.
He also has said that right now he's thinking Cronin is thinking that a possible starting five could very well be Perry and Freeny at the guards. Booker at the five. And Dailey and Williams at the forwards. He makes a good point when one considers that that lineup - for all intents and purposes - beat Michigan State, and gave Purdue and Connecticut, for a half, a pretty good game. Add the new guys and that could look like a very solid team that could beat a lot of teams. That's a very different perspective than most fans have. It certainly isn't the team I would hope UCLA will field next year, and I do think that Cronin isn't done yet so there will probably be at least two more additions, but, at this point, I do acknowledge that Johnson has an interesting and perhaps valid point.
