such that the recruiting was good but the development was not?
Was Pat Cowan an NFL QB under another coach? If so, you'd think someone would have seen it. Were J. Cowan, Breazell, and Everett NFL receivers? They caught a lot of balls. Surely some NFL teams could have extracted their untapped talent. Who were the guys who had more but were not developed? Toledo recruits Drew Olson and Marcedes Lewis developed ok under Dorrell. So did MJD and Brian Price. Kahlil Bell was a nothing recruit but played in the NFL a few years. Ben Olson, at least the guy who showed up at UCLA, was not an NFL QB no matter how much development he got.
Not all of KD's players were bad. Some were decent, some were good, a few were great. But overall his teams were not big-strong-fast at a UCLA level as we understood the term at that time and as we understood it as recently as during the Jim Mora era.
You seem to think a lot of his guys were good. I think of them more as the NBA guy on a 30-win team who averages 20 points a game. Best guys on bad teams.
