First, quite a few legendary programs play in stadiums that are old and less comfortable than the Rose Bowl, but they sell out every game. I've been to a few LSY games and that stadium isn't even close to the Rose Bowl as far as comfort, tunnel space, and ease of concessions. If you want comfortable seats there, you have to sit up high and in the end zone. No thanks, I'll be uncomfortable for a few hours.
Second, I have yet to hear of any visiting fan not enjoy the Rose Bowl experience. Only time I've ever heard a complaint was when they didn't sell beer. Bottom line is the B10 fans will travel and look forward to visiting So Cal and the Rose Bowl. SoFi doesn't care about UCLA, they want that B10 money. The RB realizes the need to upgrade and get that money also. Pasadena still needs tourist dollars.
Most importantly, the RB is realizing there is too much money they are missing out on. This includes major concerts and other sporting events. There's a reason why that sound system has been upgraded. Stadiums are about the big picture now. Football games are a fraction of the revenue.
