That's the protocol for lecanemab and donanemab, anti-amyloid treatments for patients at early Alzheimer’s disease stages. Lecanemab is administered through an intravenous line every other week and requires a baseline brain MRI before starting treatment, followed by surveillance MRIs before their 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 14th infusions. For donanemab, it's administered every four weeks. The MRI monitoring is a critical safety measure, as ARIA (brain swelling or microhemorrhages) is a known risk. These drugs have been shown to be effective in slowing down the long term rate of cognitive decline in about half the subjects in the clinical trials.
