Please note, I'm not arguing whether this is good or bad. I'm only saying this is true.

My family is half Scandinavian. I have a niece that is tall and blond. She attended a high school with a large population of Korean kids.

To say Korean families take education seriously is a big understatement. The high school, public, was superior academically, and this attracted Korean families to the community. Which intensified the academic competition. And, being tall, white, and blond made her feel conspicuous.

So when it came time to select a college, she wanted to go somewhere that wasn't dominated by Koreans. She ended up at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, where being tall and blond was hardly a rarity.
